The Navy Junior ROTC (NJROTC) Academy at Colts Neck High School has claimed the honor of representing NJROTC Area 4 at this year's Navy National Championship after winning the Area Championship on February 11th at North Rockland High School in New York. This is the fourth consecutive year as Area 4 Champions for Colts Neck’s NJROTC Unit.
Bright spots for Colts Neck came in all competitive areas - academics, athletics, and drill. Academically, 15 cadets were required to take the timed 100 question multiple-choice test consisting of Naval Science Curriculum and current events knowledge. Colts Neck’s unit has been concentrating on improving its academic strength and it showed when they captured second place in this competitive event.
In athletic competition (cadence push-ups, cadence curl-ups, and an 8x90 foot dash relay), Colts Neck dominated the field. Leading the team in curl-ups were Nicole Dado, Owen Keusch, and Lucas Albaladejo, who completed 260, 242, and 221 cadence curl-ups, respectively. In push-ups, our female team leaders were Jaime Prestigiacomo (75) and Nicole Dado (71,) and on the male side were Kyle McElligott (100,) Richard Kemble (89,) Harry Weber (87,) and Giovanni DeMuth (80.) The unit also captured first place in the dash relay.
In the drill events, Colts Neck continued to set a high standard for excellence. The unit brought home trophies in all but one drill event capping their display of academic and athletic strength along with drill discipline. The cadets of Colts Neck High School NJROTC left the championship competition proud of their accomplishment and eager to meet the coming challenge at the Navy Nationals in Pensacola, Florida this spring.
