MRHS Fashion Classes Design and Donate Patchwork Quilts to Veterans
Students in Carol Fitzgerald’s Fashion III and Fashion IV classes at Marlboro High School recently made red, white and blue patchwork quilts and coordinating pillows to donate to veterans. Students in Mrs. Fitzgerald’s Fashion II classes also created pillows. Students in all levels made cards and wrote personal notes on them to be delivered with their gifts.
The bundles, made with appreciation and love, were distributed to veterans at the Holiday Care Center in Toms River as holiday gifts. Mrs. Fitzgerald reported that the veterans were very pleased and loved the gifts, thanking the students for their hard work and efforts.
The students worked diligently on the quilts for approximately 8 weeks.
Every year Mrs. Fitzgerald includes service-learning projects into the fashion program. In addition to the quilt and pillow project for veterans, previous projects have included making skirts for women in Swaziland, Africa and making teddy bears to put in Easter baskets for less fortunate children.
