CNHS Sophomore Recognized by the Monmouth County Freeholders for Fundraising Efforts
Colts Neck High School sophomore William Dean ended his summer vacation by organizing a fundraiser that would benefit not only his Navy Junior ROTC unit but also the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial Foundation.
William, who is a Third Class Petty Officer in the Freehold Regional High School District’s Navy Junior ROTC Academy, hosted a barbecue at his family’s home in August with food provided by Dan Duffy, the owner of the Cracked Olive, Holmdel. The fundraiser brought in $12,250 for the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial, Holmdel, and $5,400 for the NJROTC unit. About 150 people attended the event.
To honor William’s accomplishment, the Monmouth County Freeholder’s recognized the young man at their meeting on October 13th. William was presented with a certificate of recognition.

The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Academy at Colts Neck High School is a four-year leadership and character development program. The mission of the overall Navy Junior ROTC Program is to instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. The mission of the Colts Neck High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps is to instill in our student cadets our core values of honor, courage, and commitment, and the values of citizenship and service to our community upon which they can individually build a foundation of trust and leadership that will be recognized as the hallmark of our unit. The vision of the NJROTC Instructors is to build cadet’s individual self-confidence and leadership abilities to enable them to succeed and excel, individually and collectively.
